Fuck Me Up – Rise Up is on Fire!

Here we are, down at the beach, after fulfilling Tink’s (@puptink93) uncontrollable need to drag me on a surprise Wawa Run, now just enjoying the bliss of a laid-back evening. Tink, playing RuneScape and reviewing music for their upcoming show in Wilmington tomorrow. Me For whatever reason I checked SoundCloud completely forgetting that 5 days ago, I dropped an old release of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” which I remixed like a million years ago for Baltimore Pride. And Fuck Me Up if this track isn’t trending and getting crazy plays.

As of right now, Rise Up is getting more action than Vulgar which I was sure would be a hit despite Madonna’s clear lack of lyrical horsepower, thank god for the fierceness that is Sam Smith carrying the day, but I digress.

“Rise Up” is everything that makes a power ballad a moment. You know when you hear one because you get fucking goose pimples on your rectum. These kinds of songs move at your core in the most basic way. Connecting with emotions and sometimes trauma that may define your being all be then repressed.

You can’t deny that Andra’s voice has a quality of transparency and purity second only to a fucking bell. And “Rise Up” became a battle cry for those who are marginalized and forgotten.

So I felt it was the perfect theme for my set at Baltimore Pride in 2016.

This track was ideal for that moment, but like so many things in life after a time, it retreated into the annals of history. I feel however it has become once again relevant as we all must rise like the day, and rise up, despite the fray.

So maybe it isn’t a surprise that this track is getting the attention it is, and I am beyond happy that something I got to be a part of is once again finding its way into the lives of people who may be broken down and tried, looking for their time to Rise Up discovering that sometimes silence isn’t quiet.

So while this post isn’t filled with smut and depravity many of you have come to love and expect from me on this site, it’s a very important moment and I felt it needed to be shared.

Thank you — Carry on!
